Colour Inspiration

The PROTECTA team are more than happy to take the time to assist you in selecting a colour.  We have colour charts, photos and experience in seeing the results of hundreds of painted roofs.  If you’re wanting to ‘go green’ with heat-reflective paint, our friendly team can advise on the best total solar reflectance values for your shortlisted colours.

Variations between devices can display colours in different ways, so we recommend you check your colour selection with a manufacturer’s colour chart or samples for accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I need to restore my roof?

Sure signs your roof has seen better days include rust patches, lose or flapping sheets and lichen or moss build up.

Without addressing these issues in a timely manner, you might find that a full roof replacement is required to avoid further damage to your home.  Just because your iron roof is old and has rust, doesn’t necessarily mean you need to replace.

Today’s modern acrylic roofing membrane systems can work wonders for your roof surface.

Is it better to replace my roof, rather than restore it?

If your roof has structural issues and isn’t safe to walk on, then yes, it would be wise to consider a full replacement.

This can give you the opportunity to upgrade things like insulation, electrical wiring, install solar and bring your property up to current building code standards. If your roof structure and sheeting are sound, then a restoration solution is a significantly cheaper alternative to replacement with minimal disruption to your family.

What things should I consider when choosing a roof restoration?

‘Try to compare apples with apples.  When gathering quotes, ask for written quotes showing the scope of work to be carried out and any terms and conditions applicable.

Ask about guarantees for workmanship and that the products being used are premium quality and roofing specific.  Be wary of any offers of long workmanship guarantees such as 10 years or more.

Not all roof restorers are certified and licensed painters, and not all painters are certified to work at height, so be sure to ask lots of questions when comparing who will actually be performing the work on your roof.  A painting and decorating certification is the only ‘qualified’ standard you should be looking for when engaging an applicator.

How much will it cost to restore my roof?

Each roof pitch, size and surface condition is different and some roofs have more hips, valleys and gables than others which require closer attention. PROTECTA Roof calculates pricing taking these factors into consideration, so you only pay for what you need.

As an example, a lower pitched single storey roof in aged Colorbond will typically be less expensive to have restored than a very steep, double storey old rusty galvanised roof.

Will restoring my roof add value to my home?

Tightening roofing sheets, treating rust and coating with a roofing-specific membrane will improve the longevity and appearance of your roof.

Property valuers or purchasers will take the roof condition into consideration when placing a value on a property.  Having your roof repaired and restored will help you stand out from those properties in the marketplace that don’t.

There’s also the value of enjoyment.  Appreciating the difference between your old roof and freshly restored roof is priceless!

Can I have my roof restored with a heat reflective option?

PROTECTA Roof offers a heat reflective option in a great range of colours as standard.  Containing specially engineered pigments to help reduce the amount of infrared light absorbed by your roof, and with a gloss finish that reduces dirt pick up, a heat reflective roof membrane system is a great way to reduce the amount of heat being released into your roof.  Less heat, means a cooler home.

We have water tanks connected to the roof; will this be a problem?

A PROTECTA Roof specialist will assist you to disconnect tank inflows prior to the preparation phase of the restoration to prevent grime and dirt from the pressure washing entering your tanks.

Only acrylic, water based membranes are used, however we recommend you allow 30 days for the roof to cure, (or until a decent rain event occurs), prior to gathering drinking water from your roof surface again.

Why bother with a roof restoration?

Just as you would keep the engine of your car in good repair or wash the duco to remove grime build up, the same thinking should apply for your roof.  Not keeping your property’s roof in good repair can lead to further damage later on.

Cleaning, tightening of fasteners, rust treating and applying a specialist roof membrane can increase the longevity of your roof as well as improve its overall aesthetic.  It’s also a great chance to update and modernise your property to keep up with the latest decorating trends.
